If you’re an events planner who wants a personal and professional cause to champion, this is for you. Our new External Affairs function will play a key role in the effort to create a great place for living for people in this country. Not surprisingly, our work at Defra is also pivotal to a successful exit from the EU. In short, the events and communications you lead here will resonate for years to come.

While there will be some PR and marketing to deliver, your main focus will be on events. You’ll identify, plan and personally manage Ministers’ and senior Department officials’ engagements – from visits and roundtables to events and consultations. They could cover anything, from commitments on air quality, to international trade relationships, new key evidence and data, or innovative ways we share our research.

It doesn’t matter whether you come from the private or public sector. What’s important is your flair for shaping large-scale events end-to-end and expertly managing stakeholders. A natural communicator and collaborator; you’ll also bring a history of successful communications campaigns, strong media relations, and a real affinity for integrating every strand of the marketing mix.
