Ally Pally – The People’s Palace – is Expanding its Team

Alexandra Palace – or Ally Pally as it is fondly known - is an iconic and historic entertainment venue in Alexandra Park, London. It is located between Muswell Hill and Wood Green, in the north of the city. The original vision of the Palace was to create a community space to ‘entertain, inform and educate’ and this is upheld today by delivering live concerts, major sporting events and exhibitions as well as a permanent ice rink and boating lake.

Alexandra Palace is currently undergoing an extensive regeneration project which will transform the eastern end of the Palace, making accessible to the public the most historically significant – yet currently derelict – parts of the building, including the original ‘A’ and B’ BBC studios, home of the world’s first high definition broadcast, and our ‘hidden gem’ - the Victorian Theatre.
An exciting regeneration programme is currently underway to transform the BBC Studios into an interactive experience designed to combine Audio Visual (AV), hands-on interactivity, object display and formal and informal learning activities, whilst the Victorian Theatre will be refurbished to create an adaptable performance space which can be used for a wide range of cultural, community and commercial purposes. The Great and West Halls are typically used for exhibitions, music concerts and conferences, operated by the Trading Company, a subsidiary of Alexandra Park and Palace Charitable Trust.
As the Trading Company continues to grow and go from strength to strength, we are seeking some new recruits. On offer are three great roles – Event Manager, Sales Manager and Sales and Catering Administrative Assistant - that will allow successful applicants to really get to know this iconic venue and become part of the Palace family. Aside from an amazing place to go to work, the benefits on offer are extremely generous. Twenty-eight days holiday plus four days over Christmas are standard. Time off in lieu is a given since these roles will require some flexibility in terms of evening and weekend work – but when you are involved in putting on a major rock concert featuring bands such as The Libertines, it won’t feel like work at all.
As the Event Manager, you will be responsible for managing small to medium size events across the business as well as supporting flagship live music and sports events. You will manage and creatively develop regular weekend events in the ice rink and lead on community and engagement events in partnership with the Learning and Community team and the Regeneration department.
Furthermore, you will oversee and coordinate exclusive events in the Victorian theatre and the Transmitter Hall. This is not an entry-level position. Candidates must have solid event experience as well as being a creative thinker – we want someone who can breathe new life into our ice-rink, making it more relevant to today’s audiences.
The Sales manager role would suit someone at Senior Account Manager level. This role will be strongly supporting the Head of Sales and you will manage a small sales team. We are looking for someone who can hit the ground running and who will need minimum supervision. You will be an amazing sales person – but not arrogant – and able to fly the flag for Ally Pally, securing new sales and bookings. The Sales and Catering Administrative Assistant roles is unique and very varied. In support of sales you will be managing and responding to enquires that can range from weddings, photo shoots and private functions. We also need you to manage the events diary and send out weekly updates, whilst also maximising new business opportunities.
In support of catering, you will assist with Exchequer, EPOS and Saffron administrative duties as well as managing catering staff rotas and arranging site visits for wedding caterers.
This is an extremely important role since you will maintain the equilibrium between both teams and will be the first point of contact.
