Primary Care Commissioning (PCC) delivers expert advice and support to the health service. The events team is integral to our success, and a vital part of our future strategy.

This is an exciting time to join PCC as we have just secured a place on the Crown Commercial Services framework for events planning, delivery and related services providing event management to central government organisations and the wider public sector. The events team manager will assist the head of events with proposals and delivery for the framework.

The role

Reporting to the head of events, the events team manager is a senior position with an operational remit. The role holder will manage a team of 3 events executives and support the head of events in growing and developing PCC’s events business and the events operational function. You will have a key role in maintaining existing business and securing new contracts. You will deliver our larger event projects. You will also be responsible for overseeing the operational delivery of a team of events executives working on PCC's own events.

This role calls for a talented team leader with proven team management experience, an excellent communicator and strong team player able to show initiative and work proactively. The ability to build and maintain relationships is vital.

Key responsibilities

To line manage a team of three

To support the development of event business by bringing potential business opportunities to the head of events

To support the head of events with event design ensuring that it meets the client brief and fulfils objectives

To build and foster strong working relationships with PCC’s clients and suppliers. Following up post-event to secure future/ongoing work

To retain ownership of and to deliver large event projects, delegating work where necessary to the team

To maintain individual event budgets for own event projects and to oversee maintenance of the team’s budgets, ensuring that PCC financial procedures are observed and reporting to the head of events on a monthly basis

To assist the head of events in drafting tender submissions, event costings and proposals

To assist the head of events with recruitment and selection

 The ideal candidate

Experience - essential

Demonstrable experience of line managing a team of three or more

Significant event management experience in a client-facing role, with a proven track record of delivering successful, large and small-scale events in a commercial setting

Experience of writing project reports, proposals and business cases

Experience of managing, monitoring and reporting on budgets

Experience of prioritising a busy workload and managing several event projects simultaneously all at varying stages of completion and with competing priorities and stakeholder expectations

 Experience – desirable

Public sector / healthcare events experience

Experience of drafting tender responses and proposals

Experience of training and facilitation

 Person specification

Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

Flexible, proactive approach with ability to plan and prioritise own work and that of others, managing competing priorities

Excellent at problem-solving and crisis management with ability to operate calmly and effectively under pressure

IT literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, database and CMS software, with the ability to quickly become an expert user and trainer on in-house systems

Other requirements

The role holder will be expected to travel extensively and stay away from home on a regular basis
