An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Conference Centre Manager to join this professional membership body overseeing the running of their state of the art conference and training facility in central London.

The post holder will manage a small team of conference staff and must have team leadership and delegation skills. They will be responsible for ensuring the centre remains profitable and well managed, facilitating booking from external clients as well as coordinating events for the internal client. The emphasis is on top quality customer service, whilst operationally the focus will be on budgets, statistics, planning and profitability. The post holder will manage the marketing, publicity and sales to increase business and maximise its income.

Main duties
  • Managing the conference team, planning work schedules, monitoring and evaluation
  • Achieving sales targets and managing budgets, invoicing, statistics and financial plans
  • Ensuring all events run smoothly and checking client requirements and ensuring the catering company are in line with our objectives.
  • Managing the staff, including advising the senior team on future staffing requirements
  • Supervising maintenance, supplies and furnishings
  • Dealing with customer complaints, comments and enquiries
  • Supervising the sales, marketing and promotion of the conference centre
  • Taking the lead on negotiations with external service providers / suppliers as required
  • Ensuring that the Conference Centre is equipped to operate effectively
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance with health and safety, licensing laws and other legal regulations
  • Hold regular meetings with suppliers to ensure purchasing is in line.
  • Supervising maintenance/technical issues and to liaise with external suppliers
  • Ensuring that customer queries are efficiently dealt with
  • Maintaining a professional, approachable and courteous manner at all times
  • Maintaining an accurate, efficient and effective filing and administration system
  • Liaising with the senior members of the association to coordinate usage of the facility alongside external events
  • Being responsible for all security matters including being designated as the key-holder in the event of a fire or burglar alarm activation

The successful candidate will need significant previous operational management experience, ideally within a five star hotel, training or conference centre, coupled with strong supervisory and training skills. They will ideally already have extensive connections and their own network generated over many years of working in the industry. Prior use of diary management software such as Rendezvous would be beneficial.

Regular working hours will be Monday - Friday 8.30am - 5.30pm with some flexibility required for occasional early openings and/or later closures. Due to the nature of the business, weekend working is very rarely required.
