About the Role

Alexandra Palace is the iconic North London venue that offers you everything you need for an event, along with the best panoramic views of London. The Catering Manager will identify appropriate street food, concession bars and vendors suitable for a variety of event audiences across the Park and Palace. This includes providing creative input into Alexandra Palace's concerts (10,000 music fans), in-house events such as StrEAT-Life, the annual Fireworks Festival (90,000 people), and managing the F&B operation in the newly refurbished East Court.

The post holder will work with the commercial team to achieve revenue and profit targets and is also expected to negotiate and manage third part contractors building strong, collaborative working relationships. Excellent communication skills are a must as well as an interest in and awareness of current industry trends, specifically around street food and event catering.

This is a full time position working 48 hours per week (5 days from 7)

Roles and Responsibilities

  1. To program, secure, manage and operationally oversee all catering concessions and street food vendors at Alexandra Palace events
  2. Identify appropriate F&B offers suitable for Alexandra Palace's different audiences
  3. Oversee the ice café and East Court catering operations
  4. Liaise with clients and internal stakeholders to fully understand catering requirements of each retail events
  5. To work with all commercial teams to ensure that financial targets are met
  6. Monitor stock and order retail drink and disposable stocks as required
  7. Ensure that the catering department, concessions and vendors comply with statutory and legal requirements

Person Specification

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
  • Food hygiene Level 2
  • Experience managing catering concessions preferably within a similar large event environment
  • Budget management
  • Experience monitoring stock and using a stock control system
  • Experience negotiating with vendors and suppliers
  • Experience managing and motivating a team
  • Interest in and awareness of current industry trends specifically around street food
  • Excellent communication skills

Desirable

  • Food hygiene Level 4
  • COSHH
  • Personal liquor license
  • Experience training and developing staff
  • Knowledge of Alexandra Palace's operations and events
  • Knowledge of catering / stock management / EPOS software
