The Professional Association Team at Haymarket Media Group is renowned for working with high-profile professional associations to produce quality events, featuring the very best content, speakers and delivering on the objectives of the clients to raise their voice and profile. Since September 2017, Haymarket has worked closely with the CIPD - the professional body for HR and people development - to design and deliver their highest-profile UK conferences and exhibitions.  


We have an opportunity for a Conference Programme Executive to join the CIPD Events team, as part of the wider Professional Association team, to help the institute design event programmes for their regional conferences and events. You will play a key role in developing the content of regional CIPD’s conferences, using your event and content expertise to advise stakeholders, and ensure the event programmes remain leading edge while delivering on CIPD’s key objectives of engaging and inspiring the people profession. You will report to the Conference Production Manager and be part of a high-performing conference production team.

We are looking for candidates with a strong content and stakeholder management background. You might have previously worked in event agencies, in content development roles and/or within events in the charity sector, and enjoy using your event and content expertise to work closely with clients in both an advisory and delivery capacity.


Key responsibilities


  • Work closely with clients and stakeholders to understand event briefs and key objectives


    Lead face-to-face meetings and conference-calls to advise, update and engage key stakeholders


    Advise on conference programme content and best event structure to achieve desired objectives


    Develop conference agendas to the highest editorial standards that respond to the needs of the client


    Source, test, recruit and brief high-calibre speakers to deliver desired talks and case studies


    Assist the Marketing team in identifying compelling messaging, writing copy, and ensure communications are accurate


    Work closely with the Events Operations team to ensure operational requirements of the events are met


    Develop informal networks with practitioners to act as topic advisers and/or future speakers


    Act as main point of contact for conference speakers, attending all allocated events across the UK


    Design ‘event in a box’ programmes and roll them out across different UK regions adapting them to local needs


    Attend all the event produced and manage speakers onsite - occasionally working beyond normal office hours and weekends



Attitude, skills & experience


  • Experience working with clients and managing multiple stakeholders in a content advisory role


    Experience in developing, writing and editing conference agendas


    Experience in identifying, sourcing, selecting and briefing high-level conference speakers


    Highly-developed communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships and informal networks


    Highly-developed writing, editing and proofreading skills in English


    Ability to prioritise, work independently and under pressure to respect deadlines


    Ability to multitask on many different projects, whilst remaining highly-organised


    Knowledge or interest in HR and L&D topics and understanding of the professional development sector


    Strong telephone manner and ability to lead face-to-face meetings with senior executives and stakeholders


    Proven track record of delivering projects on time while managing conflicting priorities


    Proactive and enthusiastic, with a professional and can-do attitude


    Strong team-player, willing to work beyond their job specs to achieve team objectives



Other things to know


  • We are based in Twickenham, which is a quick 20 minutes from central London, and easy access from Surrey


    You will be required to frequently travel to CIPD offices in Wimbledon to attend meeting with stakeholders


    You will be required to travel to different UK locations, including occasional weekends and overnight stays


    We work a 35 hour, full time week, with the option of Flexible Working hours
