Job Details

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and proactive individual who has worked on projects in a fundraising, marketing or events environment, to join us as Community & Events Assistant and help our Community & Events team raise income and meet targets across a range of projects.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.

Our Community & Events team is responsible for innovating, creating and delivering fundraising events and a community fundraising programme, including the award-winning Rush Series, London Marathon and other running and cycling events. Our aim? To maximise income generation, supporter commitment and lifetime value to Shelter. Join us, and you could soon be playing a vital role in our future.

About the role

You won't just be supporting the team with admin tasks. You’ll also get to liaise with supporters, providing fundraising materials and advice, and act as the first point of contact for supporters via email, phone and post. Working with the team to ensure database and paper systems are maintained and developed, and that quality control systems are in place will be important too, as will assisting with volunteer recruitment and retention, supervising them as required and providing ongoing support.

About you

A proven background in a customer facing role in a fundraising, events or marketing environment is essential. We’ll also be looking for the ability to use databases and Microsoft applications such as Word, email and internet. You’ll have a ‘can-do’, collaborative approach and the ability to manage your own time effectively and adapt to new ideas. A flair for quickly understanding others’ needs and working to meet and exceed their expectations is important too, as are good all-round communication skills and a real desire to provide nothing less than an outstanding service.

Benefits include 30 days annual leave, flexible working and significant opportunities for learning and development.

Safeguarding is everyone’s business. Shelter is committed to protecting the health, wellbeing and human rights of those we support, and enabling them to live free from harm, abuse and neglect. All our staff will be expected to observe professional standards of behaviour and conduct their work in line with our Safeguarding Policies.

At Shelter, we welcome and encourage applications from everyone regardless of age, disability, gender, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation. We are facing diverse problems, so need diverse people to tackle them.
