Royal Society of Biology (RSB)

Fixed term (until 31 December 2020)

The RSB is a single unified voice for biology: advising Government and influencing policy; advancing education and professional development; supporting our members, and engaging and encouraging public interest in the life sciences.

The RSB formed in 2009 from the merger of the Institute of Biology (1950-2009) and the Biosciences Federation (2002-2009). The RSB was granted a Royal Charter in 1979 and officially launched as the Society of Biology on 1st October 2009. This is an exciting time to join the RSB as we celebrate our 10 year anniversary, 40 years of our Royal Charter and launch our new three year strategy.

The 10 year anniversary programme will form a central part of RSB activities in 2019 – 2020. It will contribute to our vision of a world that understands the true value of biology and how it can contribute to improving life for all, delivering on our mission to be the unifying voice for biology, to facilitate the promotion of new discoveries in biological science for national and international benefit, and to engage the wider public with our work.

You will work in the Membership and Professional Affairs department under the supervision of the Events and Regional Manager. As the Project Officer, you will be responsible for the timetabling of projects, producing costed work plans and developing material to communicate the work of the RSB. You will provide effective and efficient administrative support across the project portfolio, ensuring planning milestones are met. You’ll contribute to the project sponsorship strategy and generate sponsorship in line with core business objectives.

You will have outstanding administrative and time management skills alongside an excellent communication style. With a keen eye for detail, the Project Officer will have been exposed to a projects environment and be comfortable drafting and reviewing resources, communicating internally and externally and be flexible about project changes and carry out such other duties as may be required from time to time.

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent and have an excellent understanding and experience in project management in an events setting. Some UK travel including some nights away from home will be required.

Deadline:                            11 November 2018

Interviews:                         22 November 2018

The Royal Society of Biology is committed to ensuring equal opportunities in the life sciences, and supports diversity throughout the pipeline; at school and higher education, in the workplace and training.
