Great p/t (3 days p/w) Head of Events mat cover working with leading media company on a varied event programme, awards, conferences, roundtables etc...

This successful Media Company has a number of leading titles within the financial sector. The event team run a busy programme of events, awards, conferences, summits, breakfasts, drinks receptions etc. Mainly UK events. Looking for a really competent and confident Head of Events for mat cover - 3 days per week November '19 - July '20.

Part-time, 3 days per week, mat cover. You'll be line managing an Event Manager and an Events Co-ordinator (both very capable), and oversee the delivery of a range of events during your tenure, including 2 x Awards events, 4 x Conferences, a series of roundtables, breakfast meetings, summits and drinks receptions. The events are mainly UK, and the audience are within the financial sector. Responsibilities include:
  • Line manage event manager and events coordinator including regular 1:1's and team meetings
  • To lead, plan and oversee the delivery of all events: award ceremonies, conferences, roundtables and drinks receptions
  • Work with the Events Director by contributing to strategy, development and delivery of the events
  • Budgets management and reconciliation, plan, monitor and evaluate the progress of projects as well as the quality and success of the events
  • Work closely with the Sponsorship Managers to design sponsorship packages/opportunities and to ensure income targets are met
  • Overseeing venue finding, speaker management, delegate management, finance, marketing/communications and all event logistics
  • Appoint and manage any freelance support as and when required
  • Onsite Event Management - responsible for overseeing the running of the event on the day with key responsibilities involving production/AV/filming/rehearsals /sponsor/speaker management/onsite team management
  • Liaising with all internal stake holders; editorial, digital, sales, conference producer and marketing

The post requires a confident and assured Head of Events - with a minimum of 8 years' logistics experience working in the events industry (conference and awards experience is a highly desirable). Ideally with a background within publishing/media/commercial events. We require excellent administrative skills, strong negotiation skills, self-organisation, accuracy and the ability to use initiative. Both a natural leader and a team player with a positive 'can-do' attitude. The ideal candidate should be a fantastic communicator who thrives under pressure, with exceptional attention to detail. Key essentials include:
  • Demonstrable line management experience, including performance management and staff development
  • Experience of leading and directing a team and developing strategies and plans to support organisational objectives
  • Budget management and financial control, including financial projections and meeting financial targets.
  • Proven event project management and planning experience - across varied range of events, conferences, awards etc
  • The knowledge and experience to deal with varied internal stakeholders and teams within a publishing/commercial environment

This is a great mat cover role, and would suit a highly organised and confident Head of Events, with relevant publishing/commercial events experience, a good leader and team player - with excellent interpersonal skills.
