London, EC1

Closing date: 12 January 2019 at 11.30pm. First interviews: 21 January 2020. Second interviews: 28 January 2020.

If leading an events portfolio, developing a strategy to maximise rowth and introducing new events sounds like your ideal role, then join us as Senior Events Manager – Challenge Events. We’ll provide the infrastructure and the rewards, including flexible working. All you need to bring is proven experience of working with project teams in a fundraising, events or marketing environment, a passion for the cause and a real desire to make things happen.

This is an incredibly exciting time for Shelter as the entire organisation is rallying behind our ambitious strategy to end the housing emergency. To enable this strategy to become a reality, we have developed a new Income Generation plan that will see us significantly increase our annual income over the next three years. The Community & Events team is responsible for innovating, creating and delivering Shelter’s fundraising events and community fundraising programme. This includes a high value challenge and bespoke events portfolio consisting of participation in events such as London Marathon and own flagship events Vertical Rush and Sleep Walk, as well as the support, development and promotion of successful community fundraising initiatives and an ambitious special events portfolio of high-profile cultural events and festival partnerships.

About the role
The Challenge Event team has large teams at all of the main running events throughout the year and raise over £1million. Current key events include the London Marathon, Great North Run, Royal Parks Half Marathon, London Landmarks Half Marathon and more. This role will lead our Challenge Events portfolio, developing a strategy to maximise growth and engagement potential with current events and introduce new events and products.

A rare opportunity to drive forward an already successful events portfolio, you’ll collaborate with internal teams and forge vital relationships with external stakeholders to create new opportunities and new ways of working. Line managing and developing three Event Coordinators, overseeing the operational delivery of events and setting, managing and reporting of budgets are all key elements of this role. Everything it takes, in fact, to make sure our events series continues to thrive and income is maximised to fund our vital work.

About you

To succeed, you’ll need experience of working within project teams in a fundraising, events or marketing environment. Creative, innovative and proactive, you enjoy working as part of a team and are comfortable line-managing others. The ability to apply lateral thinking, challenge the status quo and introduce new ideas is important too, as is respect for others’ opinions. Adept at using databases/CRM systems, you know your way around Microsoft Office too. And, when it comes to communicating effectively with a diverse range of people at all levels, again, you can be counted upon to deliver.

Benefits
The wide range of benefits we offer include 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
