Do you have experience of working in a charity, fundraising or events environment and a real desire to learn more about community and events and take on the responsibility of overseeing and implementing events? Then join Shelter as Challenge and Bespoke Events Coordinator and you could soon be playing a vital role at the heart of our Income Generation directorate.

About Shelter
A home is a fundamental human need, as essential as education or healthcare. Yet millions of people across Britain struggle on a daily basis with homelessness, bad housing conditions, soaring rents, discrimination and the threat of eviction. So, we are striving for change, with individuals, in communities, across society, and leading the way to a safe home. We need ambitious, best-in-class individuals who are passionate about our cause to join us at this exciting time. This is your chance to play a part in the fundamental change we are striving to achieve.

At Shelter we are united by our purpose to defend the right to a safe home. Our enemy is the social injustice at the core of the escalating housing emergency. We believe that to win that fight, we must be representative of the people we are here to help and those who support our movement for change. In all our people decisions, we take pride in being inclusive, fair, equitable and transparent.

We have committed to combat racism both within and outside Shelter and welcome you on our journey to becoming a truly anti-racist organisation.

About the team

Our Challenge and Bespoke Events team sits alongside our Culture, Entertainment and Sports and Community Fundraising teams under the umbrella of Community and Events, within a wider department – the Income Generation directorate. Welcoming, supportive and keen to meet you, we work hard but try and have a lot of fun too. We also passionately believe in developing our people. What’s more, we are very ambitious and seek to significantly grow our income and supporter numbers and are looking for someone who can join us to be part of the team that makes that happen. In short, this is the perfect opportunity to progress in a friendly environment where we’ll encourage your personal development all the way.

About the role

Across the charity sector, fundraising through challenge events has been hugely impacted over the last year due to the effect of Covid-19. At Shelter, we’ve consolidated our events offering and are investing in growing our portfolio. As a Coordinator,

your challenge will be to deliver events from planning and set up and pulling together financial budgets to meeting supporter recruitment and income targets, delivering event days and evaluating results. Your primary focus will be on third party events such as the London Marathon and Royal Parks Half marathon, but you’ll also have input into and support our bespoke, Shelter-owned events like The Big Walk.

We are happy to talk about flexible working, personal growth, and to promote a workplace where you can be yourself and achieve success based only on your merit.

About you

A great chance to broaden your experience while being fully supported by senior colleagues, you’ll need to be proactive, with excellent time management and organisational skills and impeccable attention to detail. You’ll also need to be adaptable and will provide support across our portfolio of events when needed (occasional evening and weekend work is required, for which you will be given time off in lieu). Someone who enjoys collaborating with a team, you’re also great at communicating with people over the phone, face to face, by email, letter and via social media channels. What’s more, you’re open-minded, keen to learn, happy to take the initiative, ask questions, suggest/try new ideas and take advantage of volunteering and training opportunities to get the most out of the role.

Benefits
We offer a wide range of benefits, including 30 days of annual leave, enhanced family friendly policies, pension and interest free travel loans. Our employees also have access to a tenancy deposit loan, payroll giving, cycle to work scheme and an employee assistance programme.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.
